3 3 EndNote is reference management software. You can create a library of references to all the items you use during your studies, so you can find them again easily. You can then insert references in the correct format into your work. What is EndNote?

4 4 How to get EndNote How to get EndNote on-campus On a Library or IT Centre PC go to Start > All Programs > EndNote

5 5 Adding references manually to your EndNote library Go to References > New Reference or click on the new reference icon A New References window will appear. Journal article is the default reference type, but there are many other reference types to choose from. See page 3 of hand-out.

6 6 Importing references from the EBSCOhost database EBSCOhost is database that allow you import your references directly into EndNote. EBSCOhost can be found at: http://search.ebscohost.com/

7 7 Importing references from the EBSCOhost database Search for an article in EBSCOhost. Click on Search

8 8 Importing references from the EBSCOhost database Click on the title of an article you require. Click on the Export button at the side:

9 9 Importing references from the EBSCOhost database When you select this option the export manager appears: Click on Save. If you are on a College PC with EndNote installed then the reference should automatically be imported to EndNote.

10 10 Importing EndNote references Start EndNote Choose Import... from the File menu. Click Choose File... to locate and open the file you want to import. Import Option: If you are importing from EBSCOhost or Emerald choose Reference Manager (RIS) If you are importing from the Library catalogue or Google Scholar choose EndNote Import. See page 9 of hand-out

11 11 Using Word and EndNote This is an add-in for Word that allows you to automatically add your references. If you have the add-in you will see this tab: If not you can use Word via Citrix: http://access.regents.ac.ukhttp://access.regents.ac.uk

12 12 Cite While You Write Word add-in In the Style drop down menu change the style to Harvard:

13 13 Cite While You Write Word add-in Adding a Reference into Word While you are typing you can click on Insert Citation and select Find Citation:

14 14 Cite While You Write Word add-in Search for a citation and click on Find: To insert into Word click on Insert.

15 15 Cite While You Write Word add-in Click on the Insert button and the reference will be inserted in the current Word document:
