2 Thanksgiving is a very popular holiday in the United States and Americans celebrate this special day on the fourth Thursday of November. Every year, families and friends around the United States get together to enjoy a delicious meal and to give thanks for everything they have. A typical meal consists of; turkey, mashed potatoes, different vegetables, cranberry sauce and many tasty desserts!

5 The journey lasted 66 days and many people on the ship became sick and died from hunger and illness. Finally, they reached land in an area called Massachusetts.

9 The people were so happy and thankful they had so much food; they decided to celebrate with a big feast. Everyone made food and the village sang and danced all night. This celebration happened in the month of November, 1621. Since that time, Americans all over the country celebrate this special day. 10 Today people celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways. Some people stay at home, while others go and watch the fantastic parades and firework displays that take place all over the United States.
