17. Readers’ Theater  turn to page 304  We will be reading about how town leaders worked together to plan a new park.  It is written as if students are interviewing town leaders.

18. Reading:  Look at the words on page 304.  Let’s review or fluency tips from this unit. As I read “Town Hall” aloud, I will use my voice to express what the characters are feeling. If a character is enthusiastic or puzzled, I will try to show that with my voice. I may slow down if a character is trying to explain a new idea.  As I read aloud, follow along and read in your mind so that everyone is reading!

Build Robust Vocabulary  The town leaders’ preference was to plan the new park so that it would be useful for everyone.  preference – If you like one thing better than another, you have a preference.  Would you name a food you didn’t like if you were asked about your preference for lunch? Explain.

20. Build Robust Vocabulary  The town leaders had to have alternatives while they worked on planning the new park.  alternatives – If you have several choices, then you have alternatives.  Do you only have one choice if you know there are alternatives? Tell why.

21. Practice/Apply Vocabulary  Tell about your preference for the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Do you know others who share the same preference?  Imagine that you and your friends are tired of playing tag. Describe some alternatives to playing tag.

23. Present-tense Action Verbs Add the ending –s to most present-tense action verbs when the sentence tells about ONE. Add the ending –es when a present-tense action verb ends in s, x, sh, ch, or tch and the sentence tells about ONE. Do NOT add –s or –es to a verb when the sentence is about I, you, or MORE THAN ONE. To combine two sentences using the same present-tense action verb, use and to combine the naming parts. Add no ending to the verb.
