3 Is required of every supervisor It is not optional There are Expectations that include: Do all evaluation in a timely manner Engage students in the process Use the opportunity for building relationships, learning, and improving work Is not a punitive tool…think development Labor Evaluations

4 Important Evaluation Tips Supervisors should check to ensure their name has been inserted into the Labor Status forms correctly If students stay in the position but work with a different supervisor the next term, notification of that supervisor change should be given to Student Payroll Use the Supervisor Correction Form each term to do this. Communicate any adjustments needed as soon as possible to David Slinker, Training and Assessment Specialist and Andrea Davis, Student Payments Coordinator Incorrect Supervisor Incorrect position or WLS level Do the evaluation early enough to ensure time to discuss the results with students

6 Labor Evaluations The evaluation begins with an email notification sent out through Online Course Survey (SmartEvals) To login to the evaluation website click the following link: https://webapps.berea.edu/laborprog ramoffice/studentlaboreval/test_evalu ations Your username in the system is your Berea username Your password is your Berea Password Remember to clear your spam filters to allow these emails to be sent to you.

7 Begin by inserting your login ID and Password into the screen to gain access Labor Evaluations

8 Upon entering, you will see all of your active evaluations Do you see what you are supposed to see? Click on an “evaluate” button to begin

9 Student/position information at the top of each page Make sure you are evaluating the correct person

10 Before proceeding, make sure you select the proper statement identifying the type of evaluation you are currently conducting.

11 At the bottom of the page will be basic instructions for the evaluation Read them if this is your first time in the system Click “next” to proceed

12 There seven key evaluation areas you will consider The bullet points serve as descriptors Score from a sliding scale (some are weighted) Enter supporting comments and proceed to next area

13 To prevent “over scoring” the evaluation will specifically ask for comments and an explanation when rating a student on the extreme ends of the scale.

17 Upon completion, you have two options “Save for Later” allows you to retain information and return to the evaluation later “Next” takes you to the final submission page

18 Final page contains a composite score “Save for Later” function “Print” function “Submit” function locks and closes the survey

19 90 -100Exceptional Performance 80-89Exceeds Expectations 70-79 **Meets Expectations 60-69Needs Improvement 59-belowUnsatisfactory Performance ** Meets Expectations should be considered doing a good job. The score range (70-79) rates performance at expected levels with evaluation scale examples indicating a suggested point range for meeting those expectations. Exceeding Expectations and Exceptional Performance ratings should be reserved for students who go beyond basic expectations for the position. Supervisors should share explanations in the comments box when rating above/below the suggested range for meeting expectations. ALSO, a student can be placed on labor probation for receiving a score of 59 or below. Other Information Scoring Legend

20 Labor Transcript The Labor Transcript is a detailed report of each student’s work history and performance Performance information is pulled directly from the Labor Evaluation Useful for showing a work progression or field of work Allows for a better articulation of the resume A place to document Labor distinctions, awards, etc.

21 It may also help students to better promote themselves to a future employers.

23 Labor Experience Evaluation Should be completed at the end of labor contracts and are required of all returning students Captures student feedback in following key areas Learning through work experiences Relationship between work and academics Support of four core general education learning goals Evaluation of the student work area Evaluation of the Labor Program Evaluation of the overall labor experience Generate assessment reports/recommendations for departments

24 Labor Experience Evaluation Assessment reports are generated using Student Labor Evaluation (SLE) – Completed by faculty supervisor Labor Experience Evaluation (LEE) – Completed by students Students share back their work experience and a variety of other thoughts
