2. West of England I Joint Spatial Plan A new Joint Spatial Plan is being created by the four local authorities of the West of England. When approved, the document will identify the amount of homes and employment land that will be needed in the period to 2036. It will also guide where this growth should be directed. Everyone is invited to have their say. This session allows you to contribute through the first part of the West of England’s Young Placemakers’ Programme.

In the period to 2036 there is a predicted need to provide 85,000 more homes in the Bristol area (further homes will be needed in and around Bath). Around 56,000 homes are already planned for, or are likely to arise through small scale development. However, land for a further 29,000 homes will need to be found.

West of England I Joint Spatial Plan By 2036 the West of England will be one of Europe’s fastest growing and most prosperous sub regions with the gap between disadvantaged and other communities closed and a rising quality of life for all. The rich and diverse environmental character will be integral to health and economic prosperity. Patterns of development and transport will facilitate healthy and sustainable lifestyles. Existing and new communities will be well integrated, attractive and desirable places and supported by the necessary infrastructure. 19. A MORE EVEN SPREAD OF DEVELOPMENT – BRISTOL AND OTHER TOWNS This scenario explores the benefits of a more even spread of development across the area. Rather than focusing solely on Bristol it recognises that the West of England is a diverse area with a wide range of towns, villages and cities each possessing different qualities and offering different opportunities. This scenario could use different locations for development, potentially including a mix of urban extensions, town expansions and development in other settlements.. D
