2 Definition of Term Two most generally accepted principles of constructivism are (Grabe and Grabe, 2007, p 54): What a person knows is not passively received, but actively assembled by the learner In most circumstances, learning serves an adaptive function; the role of learning is to help the individual operate within his or her personal world

3 Practical Implications Students responsible for their own learning Learning influenced by context Learning personal knowledge, not abstract truths
