3 If you have, think about it when we look at the next slides…

4 Risks When you go online you might come across some risks. This means there are things that could go wrong and times where you might be unsafe.

5 Let us look at examples of what might happen

6 1. Cybersquatting Scammers will sometimes make a fake website. Or a website that can easily be typed in by accident when you are trying to get to a real site: (www.bbcc.co.uk/ www.amazoon.com)www.bbcc.co.uk/www.amazoon.com

7 Have you ever typed an address in wrong and been taken to a strange site? What sites might I be trying to get to ?

12 2. Cookies These are small files that your Browser saves on your computer. They include things like your login and password.

13 3. Data Theft Your banking information can be very valuable in the wrong hands! People can take your personal details and use these if they are entered on fake or unsafe websites.

14 This fake eBay site tries to get people to enter REAL eBay login information.

15 4. Spending Too Much It is really easy to buy things online (sometimes with just one click!) It is easy to lose track of how much money you are spending!

16 5. Griefing Some people enjoy annoying other people on purpose. They ruin experiences that should be fun.

17 This could be something like sending rude messages to you on an online game. It could be making fun of a photo or video you put online.

20 6. Identity Theft Scammers can steal your identity by getting access to your personal information. Scammers can use your details to buy things using your account information. They pretend to be you!

23 7. Malware Malware are programs which may pretend to be something useful. They can install themselves by getting you to click a box. These can harm your computer or even take control of it.

25 Activity In groups, read each of the examples. Try to match each of these to the risk.

26 Remember the examples we have just looked at. Think about what is going wrong in each case.
