by: Arturo Alleje Degradation of the atmosphere’s life support sysytems.

The atmosphere -layer of gases that cover the earth. -protects living things from UV radiation -allowing light to reach Earth’s surface = energy for photosynthesis. - temperature regulation

The atmosphere and how it makes life possible Composition : Oxygen 21% - Oxygen is required for cellular respiration. Nitrogen 78% -Bacteria convert nitrogen in to air for animals and plants to use Other gases 1%- CO 2 – Animals produce CO 2 = photosynthesis for plants – Burning fossil fuels = CO 2 -- Water vapor – Varies greatly from area to area (desert or polar ice sheet to rain forest) A

The ozone layer -layer in the stratosphere -Ozone O 3 -The layer shields Earth from much of the harmful ultraviolet radiation. http://www.dogonews.com/ -Blocks Ultraviolet B (Harmful)

The greenhouse effect -trapped heat/ UV in earth that warms the earth- makes life possible -Without it life is not possible. - Bad effects if human activities interfere. jhbsdfgvsdvfsdfsdfsdfsdfsdfsdfsdf sdfsdfsdfhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhzsasddddddd dddddddddddddddddddddddddd dddddddddddddddddddddddddd dddddddddddhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhdddddddddddddddddddddd dddddddddddddddddddhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhh http://www.livescience.com/

Effect of human activities Over Greenhouse effect- increased pollutants in by human activities the ozone layer causing too much to be trapped heating the earth too much. Depletion of the Ozone layer. -ChloroFluoroCarbons (CFCs) main culprit -CFCs reach the upper atmosphere =exposed to ultraviolet rays = Break down of CFC. - The chlorine reacts with oxygen atoms in ozone and rips apart the ozone molecule. -1 atom of chlorine can destroy 100,000 ozone molecules - The “hole” above Antartic regions.

Extra UVB stops reproduction of phytoplankton affecting the whole food chain and web. http://terrabluteams.org /

Air pollutants and their classifications Classifications – Primary - emitted directly from the source Secondary – Formed in the atmosphere SOURCES : Natural - volcanoes, wild fires, dust storms. Anthropogenic- caused by human activities - combustion of fossil fuels - cars etc. Basic Pollutants Carbon monoxide COP Sulfur dioxodeSO 2 P OzoneO3O3 S Nitrogen DioxideNO 2 S HydrocarbonsHCP and S Lead Pb P and S human

Acid rain Acid precipitation-i specifically wet forms of acid pollution that’s in different types of Precipitation. Acid deposition-Acidic pollutants deposited from the atmosphere to the Earth's surface. Sulfur dioxide- -responsible for 60-70% of the acid deposition that occur. - 90% of the sulfur in the atmosphere is of human origin. http://nualgiponds.com /

Smog smoke x fog (clouds touching ground) = SMOG Air pollutants. www.Intelligent living.co

Deduction of Human health CauseSickness Ozone layer depletionSkin cancer, skin asthma, eye damage, mutations Acid rain and smogAsthma, lung cancer, bronchitis, skin irritations, eye irritaions
