1 American Author Birth date- Death Date Student Name Figure 1 Explanation of Image You may choose to add more color and design to your presentation. Do not overdo it. Too much detailed design or too much animation can be distracting and may make your presentation difficult to read. Less is more!

2 A Connection to American History This is where you list what was happening in America during your author’s life. Perhaps your author lived during the Revolutionary or Civil War. Perhaps your author was one of the first settlers in the New World. My author (his or her name) lived during the War of 1812. (Event #1) He/She was a passenger on the Mayflower. (Event #2; yes, these facts are impossible since these events occurred 200 years apart…just keeping you on your toes.) This is where you explain how these events may or may not have affected your author and his/her writing. Figure 2: Explanation of Image

3 Your Author’s Life Write 5 interesting facts about your author’s life with brief explanations. Do not include author’s birthplace or place of death. Listed below are examples; you do not have to have these exact details. College attended in what year First job Important journey Involvement in politics/war When something was published (Wiggins) Figure 3: Explanation of Image Place the first word of the source citation here if you got all the information from this slide from this source.

4 Some of your author’s work (3 examples) Note what type of writing your author did. Fiction? Sermons? Political papers? Get the idea? “Poem” “Article” Book Speech (Foerster) Figure 4: What my poodle looks Like. Put quotation marks around the names of poems and articles and italicize the names of books and speeches. Place the first word of the source citation in parenthesis.

5 Choose one of author’s writings to explain in more detail In your own words, write a brief summary of the work that you’ve chosen. Make sure the slide is easy to read! ( Wiggins) If you get information for this slide from two different sources, then place the first word of citation in parenthesis after the fact. (Foerster) Figure 5: Cute poodle, again Put the first word of your source after the information that you got from that source! This is an example of citing two sources on one slide.

6 Author’s impact In your own words, briefly state what your author contributed to America. This is where you show the audience what you learned from this project. * You may write bulleted sentences Or You may write a short paragraph. Make sure it is easy to read.
