2 Geographical Location The Philippines are located in Southeastern Asia. They are between the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea, which is east of Vietnam. They are also near the equator.

3 History Of The Philippines People first reached the Philippines about 30,000 years ago. Ferdinand Magellan claimed the Philippines for Spain in 1521. Later, the Philippines declared their independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. On July 4, 1946, the Republic of the Philippines was established.

4 Current Information The capital is Manila. Philippine population is estimated at 90.3 million people. The official languages are Filipino and English. The climate is tropical ; Big Storms tend to hit the Philippines as well. The economy is doing well by improving by 5% every year from 2000. Their religion has many beliefs but an overwhelming 80% of people are Roman Catholic. The life expectancy in the country is 72 years.

6 Manila It is the capital of the Philippines. Also known as the “Pearl Of Orient.” Transportation is easily available for traveling. Manila uses its harbor for goods to either sell or use for themselves.

7 Cebu City The land was discovered by Ferdinand Magellan. The people are very friendly in the city. The weather is best from December to May, while the hottest months are from March until May.

8 The Island of Luzon The island of Luzon is the 15th largest island in the whole world and the 7th in Asia with an area of 109,965 km². Numerous volcanoes are located around the island. The largest lake in the Philippines is Laguna de Bay. It has area of 949 km².

9 Davao Considered a peaceful city in the Asian region. Home to many private agencies. Davao has great weather conditions. Various fruits grow here as well.

10 Palawan A very adventurous island. Palawan has over a thousands island and islets. Wrecked ships under the waters wait patiently for divers.
