Personal Development, Health and Physical Education is a key learning area in primary schools and is fundamental to the development and well-being of all students.

 As teachers, we have the responsibility to ensure that our students learn about the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle. Teaching PDHPE allows us to achieve this!  PDHPE provides the tools necessary to equip students with the knowledge and skills for maintaining their “mental, physical, social, and spiritual wellbeing” (NSW Board of Studies)  The numerous benefits of PDHPE make it one of the most important subjects for students in primary schools.

 Promotes good health, resulting in an improved quality of life, less sickness, and the prevention of disease.  Teaches students how to problem solve and make decisions, as well as learn about safety.  Students learn how to work together as a team, build cooperative relationships with one another, and strengthen peer relations.

 Promotes regular physical activity, and healthy eating.  FUN and enjoyable at every age!

According to Spans 2010 data:  Negative food consumption behaviours are evident among NSW school students.  Prevalence of overweight and obesity, as well as sedentary behaviours. www.health.nsw.gov.au/pubs/2011/spans_2010_summary.html PDHPE is important to preventing these risks!

As teachers, we can teach students about the benefits they will gain from PDHPE, and ensure they live healthy and happy lives!
