4. FORMAL RULES (Written Rules) These are rules laid down by the governing body of the sport (SFA, FIBA, SBU) For Example – You must serve diagonally across the court in badminton. Both feet must be in contact with the ground when taking a throw in in football. You cannot tackle a player around the neck in Rugby.

6. Rules - Written Rules are made to ensure that everyone has an equal chance of winning. In a long jump competition the jumper must take off before the board and land in the sand. If not then they are disqualified. Write down another example of a written rule from a different activity. In Netball the GA and GS are the only 2 attacking players allowed within the semi circle. This means that other players must get the ball to them to score. It also prevents the semi circle from being crowded. Rules can also restrict movement within activities, and shape them. 7. INFORMAL RULES These are practices which are an accepted way of behaving during an activity though they do not appear in a rule book. 8. Rules - Unwritten Unwritten rules (etiquette, code of conduct) give details of how an individual or team should behave. Performers who fail to follow the code are said to be unsporting.
