1 Trace Winegar LEPTIN

2 FACTS ABOUT LEPTIN Leptin is a protein produced in fat cells, circulates in the bloodstream and ends up in the brain Produced all your life Also made in the pancreas, placenta, ovaries, skeletal muscle, stomach and breast tissue Lepttin tells your brain that you have enough energy stored in your fat cells to continue metabolic processes. Thresholds for Leptin are typically set by genetics When leptin levels are above threshold then the body can burn energy at a normal rate, eat at a normal rate, exercise at a normal rate and engage in expensive activities like puberty.

3 People on diets typically have a decreased energy intake causing their leptin levels to drop. A decrease in Leptin levels causes your brain to sense “starvation.” Once your brain has entered this stage many processes begin in the body to bring leptin levels back up to normal. The vagus nerve is activated by the brain making you hungry. Everything your vagus nerve does is to help you store energy and bring leptin levels back up threshold. LEPTIN DEFICIENCY

4 LEPTIN RESISTANCE Leptin resistance is when your body is unable to produce its normal effects to stimulate weight loss. Typically in overweight people. Factors that Lead to resistance Fructose consumption (high intake levels High stress levels Lack of sleep High insulin levels Overeating Over exercising How to fix leptin resistance Eat little to no refined foods, sugars and fuctose Reduced simple starches Increase protein and healthy fats in diet Plenty of sleep Plenty of vitamin D No snacking
