Siddique Zobair Member (Energy Efficiency and Conservation) SREDA November 2015

2 Annual Energy Consumption ( FY 2008-09)

3 Objectives of Energy Efficiency & Conservation
Primary Energy Consumption by Sector in Bangladesh, excluding Biomass EE building program ⇒ UNIT: 1,000TOE Total: 26,112 2nd Priority ⇒ EE Labeling Program for home appliances ⇐ 1st Priority Energy Manager& Auditor Program Source: MPEMR,BPC, IEA Common : Awareness & Finance Incentive Programs 3

4 How to implement EE&C programs effectively
Government Own Initiative Energy Management EE Labeling EE Building Finance Incentive Climate Change Mitigation IT & Awareness

5 EE&C Potential of Residential Sector is estimated as 36%
Household Electricity Consumption by Appliance (Proportion of Wh) Present situation Replacing all appliances to EE types EE&C Rate Lighting -50% AC Ref. Fan -15% TV -30% Pump -10% Source; JICA Project Team 2014

6 EE Labeling Program Source: BSTI

7 EE&C Potential of Industrial Sector is estimated as 31%
A: Present energy consumption B: EE case energy consumption

Part 3. EE Building Program 1) Related Other Programs Promotion in association with related other programs (Energy Management Program and Labeling Program) Industrial Sector Commercial Sector Residential Sector Regulatory Measures Energy Management Program Large buildings are objectives in this program. NBNBC and GBG NBNBC is a mandatory program for building construction. GBG is a voluntary program to reduce environmental impact by buildings. Labeling Program Use of EE type lighting, ACs and ceiling fans is expected

12 1) EE&C Measures and Databases
Part 5. IT & Awareness 1) EE&C Measures and Databases ■ Prototype Databases are developed in this Project. EE&C Measures Databases Energy Manager/Auditor Best Practice ESCOs Energy Consumption (Periodical Report) Designated Energy User Benchmarking System Comparison of Enegy Efficiency (Energy Intensity) Labeling System Minimum Energy Performance Standard Performance of Equipments Developed
