8 Presentation Guidelines Find the appropriate theme Appearance can significantly affect the message! Choose words for each slide Less Is More! 7 x 7 Rule (No more than 7 lines with no more than 7 words on each line) It’s best to fit all 7 words on the SAME line Avoid All Caps – takes longer to read – be careful as some fonts change the case to all caps Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory Concepts and Techniques8

9 Presentation Guidelines Font Size Font Size should be 24 points or more Italic can be used to emphasize IF it is used sparingly Color Colors – themes use complementary colors that work well together Remember that color evokes emotions – be careful! 15% of men have difficulty distinguishing shades of green or red and often see purple as blue and brown as green Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory Concepts and Techniques9

11 The PowerPoint Window Slide = the basic unit of a PowerPoint presentation Layouts = PowerPoint includes 9 built-in layouts Placeholders = boxes included in the layout indicating what goes in that spot on the slide Scroll box = reflects which slide is being displayed Previous/Next Slide buttons = used to navigate backwards/forwards Status bar = shows current slide number, document theme, view buttons, and zoom Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory Concepts and Techniques11

13 Formatting Tips To change the format of ONE WORD, just click inside the word (no need to select it) Triple-clicking selects a paragraph Holding CTRL while selecting allows you to select multiple blocks of text PowerPoint considers a paragraph as text that ends with an PowerPoint adjusts line spacing and text size automatically to fit text Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory Concepts and Techniques13
