2 Please pick up a yellow half-sheet of paper, then write the following question on one side of this paper: Why is it important to know where to quickly find the safety equipment in the laboratory? 5 Activity Take your yellow half-sheet of paper and make a map of the classroom. Draw and label all of the safety equipment in the room.

6 Discussion Let’s take a further look at the need for safety equipment (especially goggles) in the chemistry lab. On your yellow sheet, please write the following question: Why is it necessary to strictly adhere to lab safety rules when working in a science laboratory? Play … to decrease the chances of an injury.

7 MSDS Sheets MSDS is a very widely used abbreviation for Material Safety Data Sheet. A MSDS contains details of the hazards associated with a chemical, and gives information on its safe use. MSDS sheets are kept in the backroom of this lab.

8 MSDS Sheets Work with one of your SLC partners and share an MSDS Research Form. Get one of the sample MSDS sheets from Mr. C. Fill out the Research form using the MSDS sheet. Be prepared to give a verbal presentation on the information that you discover. Question: Why do you think the MSDS sheets should be kept in a place other than this lab or the chemical storeroom?
