10 Organic Dysfunction Organic dysfunction means the cause of the reading disability is physically based and it does not include reading difficulties that are caused by social or environmental factors, or educational deficiencies. Examples of an organic dysfunction may include conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and aphasia.

15 Who can order? Any educators w/ valid school email ◦They serve as Digital Rights Managers  Ensure materials are used w/ Students w/ disabilities Certification of eligibility made by someone who can see the IEP and the students file ◦PWC currently has every librarian as a Certifying DRM

16 By clicking “AIM-VA District Users List” under the “Reports” tan, DRMs can see directory information about each division with AIM-VA users. ◦This allowins teachers and administrators to connect and collaborate. Who can order?

17 Steps for Access Create an AIM-VA account Add students you wish to order for Ensure students are certified as eligible Search for a book Download a book

18 AIM-VA account Roles Division Level Administrator ◦Can see and do anything with their Division (Mainly changes user role levels + permissions, and uses reports)  Schenell Agee Lead DRM ◦Same abilities as DLA but within specific schools  Currently the only LDRM is Susan Proctor Certifying DRM ◦Can add students, certify students as eligible, and order.  All of PWC librarians DRM ◦Can only add students and order.  Any teacher with a valid school email.

19 Users can add themselves by clicking the create an account button on the login page. ◦Users creating their own account MUST use a school email address as their username. ◦Users added this way will be automatically given the permissions of a DRM and will have to have their accounts edited by the Division Admin or Lead DRM to receive greater permissions. 20 To add a student either click “Add Student” under the “Students” tab or the “Add Student” icon on the portal homepage ◦You must add students before you can order materials. Adding a student

21 To protect the students’ privacy, Student Testing Identification Numbers are used when adding students to our system. ◦Students’ STIs can be generally be found on the IEP or you can contact the testing coordinator ◦STIs are 10 digits long and start with the combination 101 Adding a student

22 When selecting a username for your student please take care to not use the students first or last name. ◦We wish to fully comply with FERPA and protect the identity of the students. You can add and order for non- eligible students but orders will not be fulfilled until the student is certified. ◦When student eligibility changes, the account can be quickly edited and backlogged orders will be fulfilled. 23 Ensure that you: ◦Fill out the form completely and to the best of your knowledge ◦Students username and password gives them access to the student bookshelf.  Currently, students can stream ePubs from their bookshelf. In the future, they will be able to access teacher made materials from here. Adding a student

24 When a DRM (teacher) adds a student, that student must be certified by either a: ◦Division Level Admin ◦Lead DRM ◦Certifying DRM When a CDRM, LDRM or DLA adds a student, they are automatically certified. Certifying Students

25 To certify a student you must ensure that they have an IEP that contains one of the Chafee criterion and a signed document from a medical doctor Then check off the box under certify and click the blue certify button on the left hand side. You can certify more than one students at a time Certifying Students

26 Searching for a book Search for a book is found on the left hand side bar as well as the portals front page. Generally, use ISBNs for textbooks and title for other works. ◦Be careful to not enter too much info. One error could skew results ◦Try multiple searches before submitting an order for new production

27 Searching for a book Results are broken down by partner Results will tell you what formats are currently available Click “Order Now” to load order form

28 When selecting the academic year the materials will be used, take note that materials order for the next academic year will not be processed until the end of the current academic year Academic Year

29 Orders can be placed to students pending certification. ◦They will not be filled until the student is certified ◦This will generate a reminder to a Certifying DRM to certify the student You can only order one file for one student at a time Select your student

30 The potential delivery methods are: ◦Postal Delivery (CD, Large Print, Braille) ◦Electronic Download  Electronic Downloads for this academic year should be available shortly after the order has been placed. ◦Streamit  Streamit orders are automatic placed in the students bookshelf for instant online streaming. Delivery Method

31 To receive materials from AIM-VA you must agree to both: ◦The Terms and Conditions ◦Having a non-accessible version of the ordered material available to the student  Can be in a classroom, library, resource room, etc.  This rule was put in place when we started because we feared litigation. I am currently trying to remove it because it is no congruent with national law. I just need the AGs approval. Once everything has been filled in and checked off, clicking “Order” will place your order. Legal obligations

32 Downloading orders Click “Manage My Orders” under the “Manage Orders” tab Find your file in the list ◦The list can be reorganized by ID, title, ISBN, STI, date, format. Click downward arrow icon to download your order

33 Learning Ally Free to all AIM-VA users After searching for a book click on “View on Learning Ally” to create your account ◦This will send an automated email with your account information in about 5 min Has different eligibility requirements for students ◦Can create independent student accounts ◦Does not ask for Doctors note ◦Makes no distinction between IEP and 504
