5. Economy of Axum  By 270 AD, Aksumite kings issued a gold coinage.  The rulers imported silver, gold, olive oil and wine, and exported luxury goods.  Traded with the Eastern Roman empire, Greece, Egypt, Africa, Arabia, and India.

8. Rise of the Axum Kingdom What forces lead to the rise of Axum? The kingdom of Axum was at the height of its power from 100-715 AD. The Aksumite king Ezana I (320-350 AD) assumed power when Axum was a strong and large empire. The king's main wealth and power came from his control of foreign trade.
