3 Causes Cont. Sparta and its allies creates the Peloponnesian League Fights a land campaign Athens and its allies creates the Delian League Fights a naval campaign and a blockade

4 Early Battles Sparta sieged Athens Athens becomes overcrowded and disease breakout and kills 1/3 of pop.

5 Stalemate Athens invades Sparta’s ally Syracuse (Sicily) The expedition ended in failure Athenian army completely destroyed

6 Athens surrenders Athens managed to hold on a few years but eventually surrendered to Sparta

7 Spartan Demands Athens  Tear down city walls  Disband navy  Disband Dalian League Sparta wins and becomes the greatest city-state in Greece

8 Fall of Sparta Sparta becomes a bully Eventually all the other Greek city-states lead by Thebes create an alliance The alliance defeats Sparta

9 New Invaders The end of the war leaves Greece politically and military divided Greece is completely weak and open to invasion Invaded by the Macedonians and Philip II
