2 ISOLATIONISM= loner  A Policy of avoiding political or military involvement with other countries.  Ex: George Washington cautioned the U.S. to avoid “foreign entanglements.”

4 COLLECTIVE SECURITY= team player  WORKING WITH OTHER COUNTRIES TO INFLUENCE WORLD AFFAIRS  EX: NATO troops from different countries helped to keep peace in Eastern Europe

5 INTERNATIONALISM= world policeman  GETTING INVOLVED IN OTHER COUNTRIES BUSINESS TO PROMOTE IMPORTANT NATIONAL INTERESTS AND /OR TO SAFEGUARD NATIONAL SECURITY.  Why do you think the United States is continuously involved in Mideast affairs? What national interest are we concerned about?

6 IMPERIALISM= World bully  EXTENDING POWER BY ACQUIRING TERRITORY AROUND THE GLOBE OR EXPLOITING WEAKER NATIONS TO SERVE NATIONAL INTERESTS

8 INSTRUCTIONS  Work in pairs to decide under what category each U.S. action or policy (doctrine) fits into.  Then using complete sentences, explain why you placed that event in the category you chose.  Quiz on four concepts tomorrow.
