Special Thanks to Detroit Chapter- Carolyn Price Phoenix Chapter- Mary Ellen Pendleton Texas Capital Area- Julie Schultz and Becky Cook Cleveland Chapter- Susan Ferraro Smith Pasadena Chapter- Becky Sarni and to everyone who worked on the Challenging Poverty: One Child At A Time Manual

Our Chapter doesn’t have partners….. does it? All Chapters participate in the Christ Child Society signature layette program and unless you are personally handing out the finished layettes you have a partner(s)! Do you work in a school, fill backpacks, hygiene bags, or my stuff bags, perform eye screenings, work with teen moms…..?

Why Do Evaluations? Need to know how your partner thinks things are going and what changes they might like Need to know about how the program works for the Chapter volunteers Need to know the impact of the program

Why Do Evaluations? Want to do the best job with limited resources- both dollars and volunteers Produce useful feedback for grant applications

Miss Mary Said “Assess all programs through an evaluation process to determine if we are addressing the needs of today’s at- risk children. In addition, to the active participation in the program, Board members and others, have the unique responsibility of interpreting the needs of the community. ” Paper on Volunteer Service, Mary Virginia Merrick, 1943

How to Evaluate Gold Standard is the Logic Model Graphical depiction of the logical relationship between the resources/inputs, activities, outputs and outcomes/impacts of a program.

How to Evaluate We reviewed the Logic Model, talked to many Chapters that have evaluated their programs, mixed it all together to get the best ideas and it resulted in a simpler, more straightforward evaluation designed for CCS Chapters called “What Would Miss Mary Think?” Or (maybe a better name) Mission Focused Evaluation

Mission Focused from the Top Evaluations Chairs of each Program Board Evaluation Committee 3 or 4 members Layettes Partner Organizations ChapterVolunteers Other Programs Partner Organizations ChapterVolunteers

Evaluations-Layette Partners As all Chapters have layette programs we wrote specific questions for a layette program. The suggested form to use with your partners is Questionnaire for Organizations Partnering in Christ Child Society Layette Programs Page 1

Evaluations- Other Programs We wrote general questions to be used with other programs. The suggested form to use with your partners is Questionnaire for Organizations Partnering in Christ Child Society Chapter Outreach Programs Page 2

Chairs of each Program The Chairs of each program need to fill out an evaluation form- some suggested questions can be found on the Mission Focused Program Evaluation pages 3-4

Mission Focused Program Evaluation Please add Chapter mission statement here. Project/Program: Chairperson(s): Number of Active Volunteers: Number of Annual Volunteer Hours: Number of Children Being Served Annually: Ages of Children Being Served:

Questions for Volunteers The Chapter wants to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to its members In 1954 Miss Mary wrote: "The guiding principle of the Society has always been personal service rendered for love of the Christ Child to the least of these His little ones. In developing this purpose the Society has widened and deepened its activities to meet the exigencies of the time."

Questions for Volunteers To better understand how the members feel about a volunteer opportunity you have to ask everyone! Often we only hear the negative remarks. Modify the suggested questions to fit the volunteer experience. Need to have evaluations be anonymous unless someone wants to be contacted for follow up. page 5

Board Evaluation Committee Evaluation is important so the committee should be primarily made up of Board Members. The Chairs of the various programs should not be on the committee Committee will prepare a summary report to be shared with the full Board and the Chapter Membership pages 6-7

Board Evaluation Committee CCS Review Conclusions Program Volunteers Future of Program Follow Up Required? Recommendation- (Continue? Change?)

Questions? If your Chapter has evaluations tools that you are willing to share please send them to Joan Watkins at jwatkins@nationalchristchildsoc.org. They will be added to this presentation on the website.jwatkins@nationalchristchildsoc.org
