1 Kinds of Sentences Review
Mrs. Fennig 7th grade English

2 Sentence Structure A simple sentence contains one independent clause and no subordinate clauses. A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses and no subordinate clauses. A complex sentence contains one independent clause and at least one subordinate clause. A compound-complex sentence contains two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause.

3 Identify each sentence as (S) simple, (CD) compound, or (CX) complex.
1. The leaves of the plant were so large that I didn’t notice the geckos. 2. Birds flew, children played, and the sun shone. 3. My sister has a paper route, and I help her deliver papers every morning. 4. Later that evening, Lucy and I stood at the wishing well and made a wish. 5.Rollers crush raw latex into sheets of rubber, which are then dried.

4 6. Mangroves provide nectar for honeybees.
7. Bright, colored neon lights blinked on and off as we drove through town. 8. A hallow gourd makes a great bird feeder; my feeder attracted lots of birds. 9. A ceiling fan rotated slowly above us. 10. On shelves sat a dozen of Vernon’s model cars; each one was the result of many hours of work.
