3 Starting a New Observation 3 Log in to http://www.teachscape.com. Username is firstname.lastname. The initial password is teach until you change it.http://www.teachscape.com Click Lesson Observations (left navigation bar) Required Observations: Start New Observation - click button at the top right of the screen labeled Live

4 Setting-Up Observation: Requirements 4 Select the Teacher you will observe. Names will appear in text area when you select it. Add Title: Include subject and grade o Example: Math, 6 th, Unannounced Observation Date and Time: Enter the date and time the observation will occur. o Be sure to schedule announced visits____ days in advance. Focus complete this according to your schools specific strategies Additional Instructions add “Submit lesson plan”, “Samples of student work encouraged”, and “Submit pre and post observation forms”

5 Adding Requirements 5 Required Lesson Artifacts/Samples of student work/Self review (optional): Check Lesson Artifacts. Only check if you will make Lesson plan required through Reflect. Note: Checking box makes items mandatory for completion. Pre/Post observation form (required): o For All observations, click Pre and Post Observation form at bottom of the screen, then click on the title of the observation form, make sure a checkmark is seen to the left of the title. Then click Done. o Note: Since pre and/or post observations are attached to the observation, the teacher will be required to complete the observation and send it to the observer for the observation to proceed.

6 Adding the Framework 6 Framework and Components: Click Add Click Framework for Teaching - Revised. Click “Select All”. The Selected components will display at bottom of screen. Click Done. Summary screen: Review and make changes as necessary For Announced Click Send: A window will ask you to confirm you do not want to make any changes. Click “yes” to send the observation. When an observation is sent or started, an email will be sent to the teacher saying a Live Observation is being requested and that the teacher should login to their account. For Unannounced Click Start: Proceed with the formal observation when the lesson begins.

8 Pre-Conference 8 Objective: Learn about what the teacher intends to accomplish during formal observation. For All Announced observations Schedule with teacher prior to formal observation (can not use tool to do this) Teacher must log into Reflect Live to complete the Pre-observation form and submit the Lesson Plan. During Pre-conference use Reflect Live tool to: o Review Teacher’s Lesson Plan o Review Teacher’s Pre-observation form

9 Performing the Observation 9 On the observation date, the observer will login into their Teachscape account, click and click on the teacher’s observation and click Start. o Note: If the teacher has not acknowledged the observation, the observation will not be available in the observer’s inbox. A confirmation box that the observer will accept the teacher’s provided content will appear. Click Yes to start the observation. Enter Notes and Evidence by clicking in the Note box. Notes can be separated into shorter segments by clicking “Add” when you are finished with one thought or idea. Click in the note field again to start your next note. The field expands as notes are taken. The timestamp for notes can be turned on or off. Option: You can link evidence to components right away OR Save and Finish later to attribute to components later.

10 Linking Evidence to Components 10 If you saved for later, from the Live Lesson observation screen, choose the observation to be edited, and click “View Notes”. Associate components to a note by clicking on the third box in the note, then click in the box next to the corresponding associated component. The number in the box will change as notes are associated with components. A note can be associated with more than one component. Click “share observation notes with teacher” at the bottom of the screen. Click Save and finish later when all edits are complete.

11 Scoring 11 The observer will choose the observation to be scored from the inbox. Click View Notes, then Score to begin the scoring process. You must enter a score for each component of Domains 2&3 You can also summarize your observations for each Component Click on the circle next to the score you would like to assign to each component. Complete scoring-Click “Next” to score all selected components. Submit: This will send email to the teacher notifying that the lesson has been reviewed.

12 Post Conference 12 Objective: Review how the lesson went with the teacher and revise scores and recommendations Schedule with teacher to occur shortly after formal observation Teacher must log into system and complete Post Observation and submit additional artifacts if necessary (Samples of Student work, etc.) During Post-conference use Reflect Live tool to: o Review teacher’s Post-Observation form o Review additional artifacts submitted by teacher o Discuss scores o Review recommendations, strengths, areas of growth and overall performance

13 Final Report 13 The last page of the Reflect Live system is the Report screen. You may need to click and hold on the arrow at the top right of the screen to scroll across the screen and view the Report. Complete this section in partnership with the teacher after you have completed scoring. When all components have been scored, scroll down on the Report screen and complete the following text fields: o Recommendations, o Areas of Strength o Areas of Growth o Overall Rating based on the Framework for Teaching rubric

14 Confirming Observation 14 Final step: The observation can be Revised (by the observer), Sent for Revision (to the teacher) or Confirmed. Observer has the option to Submit report to teacher for a final review. If Teacher does receive report, they should Send back to Observer once they verify the overall assessment Once an evaluation is final the observer Confirms the report. Once confirmed the evaluation cannot be changed. You can print out the observation by clicking on the observation and Full Report. Then click Print. Confirmed observations can be found in the observer and teacher’s confirmed folder and can be printed or exported to pdf.
