2 Format for the Test 3 Sections 1) 10 short answer questions (20%) 2) 10 Long answer questions (40%) 3) 2 document questions (40%)

3 Short Answer Questions You should be able to answer these questions in a single word or one sentence. This is for competency 1 To judge your basic knowledge of important facts about history.

4 Long Answer Questions These will require more detailed responses. 4 sentences. These questions will ask you to explain the significance of certain events or concepts. These questions are meant to test Competency 2. Are you able to understand what these facts mean?

5 Document Questions There will be 2 document questions. One text and one picture. You are going to have to analyze the picture and connect the document to what we have looked at in class. The documents will come from the book. Ex: Maps, pictures, first hand accounts.

6 Areas that will be covered in the test The concepts from the vocabulary quiz Quebec’s population density Immigration Pluriculturality Migration theories to North America Climate changes in North America Aboriginal migration

7 Areas covered Aboriginal societies (Iroquian, Algonquian, Inuit) Arrival of Europeans Voyages of Cartier and Roberval French settlement in New France (St. Lawrence valley) Seigneurial system Cities and Villages

8 How to Study for the Test Things you need: Your notes: Everything that is in the notes is will be open for testing Your book: Use the book to get more details on what is in your notes. Up to page 25. Especially for the document questions. Your workbook: Completing the homework in the workbook is good practice for the test. The test will have similar questions.

9 Study Tips There is a lot to cover. Don’t leave it to the last minute. You will stress yourself out! Some people like to put their notes on cue cards and go over them. Study individually and then with a partner quiz each other. Memorizing is important, but understanding is better.

10 Test skills Don’t leave questions blank!! You don’t lose marks for wrong answers. If you are short on time, write what you know in point form. Maybe you will get part marks. Don’t spend to long on a question that’s giving you trouble. Move on and come back to it later.
