6. The Navigation Act of 1663 The Navigation Act of 1663 charged taxes to the American settlers but would not allow the American settlers to trade to other countries. The American settlers were angry over this because England would unload the ships, inspect the products, and send all the cargo themselves and charge the Americans. PreviousNext

7. The Sugar Act of 1764 The Sugar Act was placed on the Americans to collect money each time the Americans wanted to purchase sugar or molasses. The Americans were upset because they used sugar often for their tea and used molasses for any baking they did. PreviousNext

8. The Currency Act of 1764 The Currency Act made England the main distributors of currency and did not allow the colonists to print money. They even told the colonists that what money they printed had no value and they refused to give them new currency. 9. The Stamp Act of 1765 The Stamp Act imposed a tax on all official documents including legal documents, magazines and newspapers. Anything that needed mailed would have a stamp on it as a tax. The colonists were against this because they were being taxed so heavily already that another tax was ridiculous to them especially since they would need a stamp for everything they mailed. 10. The Declaratory Act of 1766 The Declaratory Act stated that the English Government was allowed to impose any law they saw fit on the colonists. The Townshend Act of 1767 The Townshend Act charged colonists for the salaries of judges and governors that England had to place in America to “control” the colonists because the colonists were rebelling. The colonists disagreed with this act because they again felt as if they were their own country and wanted to break free from Britain. PreviousNext

12. The Intolerable Acts of 1774 The Intolerable Acts were 5 laws imposed on the colonists because of rebellion to the other Acts, like the Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable Acts were the “Straw that broke the camel’s back.” This was the set of Acts that the English imposed to put troops in settlers’ homes and they had to feed them and give them a place to rest.
