2 Getting started Match the phrasal verbs in bold with the correct definitions. 1.They headed out at 6:00 in the morning.____ 2.My friends put me up for two nights.______ 3.She got off the bus at the last stop.______ 4.The car broke down, so I called the mechanic._____ 5.The train stopped briefly, and then went on to the next station._____ 6.We started off on High Street._____ 7.We hired a tour guide to show us around London.____

3 Definitions a.take someone to different parts of a new place to point out what is important or interesting b.Stopped working (used with machine) c.Left a plane, train, boat, etc. d.Began a trip at a particular place e.Continued traveling after a stop f.Let someone stay in your home for a short time g.Left at a specific time to go someplace or do something

4 Pairs: Take turns describing an interesting trip you have taken( for example, a school trip, a weekend away, or a vacation). Use some of the phrasal verbs in exercise 1. Ex: last summer, my family and I went camping. We headed out at six on a Friday morning………..

5 Listening part 3. pairs: look at the map of the River Thames in London. Discuss these questions. a)which places would you like to visit? b)When you visit a new place, do you like having someone show you around, or do you like to explore on your own? Why?

6 4. Listen to the conversation between a tourist and a travel agent. Check the places on the map that they mention. 5. Listen again and answer the questions. 1)What time does the tour start on the first day? 2)What time do they get off at Hampton Court? 3)What is the tourist doing the first evening? 4)What is the tourist doing the second evening?

7 Grammar focus  Use the simple present to talk about schedules, timetables and events in the future.  The tour starts at 7:30 tomorrow.  The movie isn’t over until 8:00.  Does the boat leave at 6:00?

8  Use the present continuous to talk about personal plans in the future.  I’m seeing the doctor at 4:00  We’re not going to the movies tonight, but we’re going tomorrow.  Are you leaving in the morning or the afternoon?
