2 Nobles looked forward to tournaments (mock battles between knights) where they could display their military prowess in jousts.

3 A nobleman’s son would begin training for knighthood as early as age 7 by working as a page (assistant), then a squire (older assistant), for a knight.

4 Knights’ behavior was governed by a code of Chivalry. They had to:
1. Be fair and brave in battle. 2. Defend the church. 3. Keep promises and be honest. 4. Be courteous to women of noble birth.

5 Peasants were most often “serfs
Peasants were most often “serfs.” These serfs were bound to the land they worked, but could be sold apart from the land. They could not leave without permission.

Few serfs lived beyond age of 40. Famine and disease were constant dangers. Most lived in tiny, one room houses with dirt floors and slept together for warmth.
