1 Scotland’s Whiskies What is whisky? How to do whiskey
A very brief history of Scotland’s whiskey. Where to find whiskey in Scotland?

2 What is Whisky? Whisky is a liquor based on barley. It is obtained
by these following steps: Malting: Malting is helping the barley to germinate, creating sugar reserves. Kilning: Kill the barley by drying it before it starts to use its sugar reserves.

3 How to do Whisky-continued
Milling: The result of the previous point is crunched and mixed with hot water. Fermentation: Everything is put into “wash-backs” for the sugar to become ethanol. The result is a weak alcohol called “wash”. Distillation: The wash is distilled several times, each time gaining alcohol strength. Maturation: the alcohol is matured over several years in oaken barrels

4 A short history of Whisky
The origin of whisky is still disputed between Scotts and Irish. However, distillation is a much older practice that even the ancient Egyptians knew for perfumes. The word “whisky” comes from the Gaelic word for water-of-life: “usky”. Only Whiskies produced in Scotland can be called “scotch”. Distilling whisky became illegal in Scotland, spawning a network of illegal distillers, many on sites of now known whisky producers.

5 Where to find Whisky in Scotland
