4 Equality - everyone being different, but having equal rights (A. Gravells) - means treating everyone with fairness and respect and recognising the needs of individuals (NCC)

5 Diversity - recognising and valuing that individuals are unique each having their own values, beliefs, attitude, culture, racial background, sexuality, skills and life experience (NCC)

6 Prejudice – a preconceived opinion
Discrimination – unfavourable treatment based on prejudice Concise Oxford Dictionary

7 Promoting Equality & Diversity
Be non-judgemental Challenge any discrimination Challenge own values, attitudes, beliefs Avoid favouritism Don’t indulge minority at expense of majority Do not offend Don’t disadvantage/overly advantage learners Treat all learners with respect & dignity
