Grading Scale Homework = 5% of your grade Classwork = 20% of your grade Assessment = 25% of your grade Major Projects/Writing = 50% of your grade

Homework Policy 6th grade policy states that no late homework will be accepted. This also means that they will not have a chance to go to their locker to get it. It must be in their binder. Late written assignments/projects will be accepted with a 10% deduction for each day that the assignment is late.

Other Important Information English will NOT have Quarterly Assessments. –However, students will have a performance based writing task at the end of each unit.

Materials Students should bring a novel to class everyday for quiet reading time. Students should submit all final work in blue or black ink. No final pieces should be submitted in pencil. Students need a section in their binder (and a folder– optional) Students need 1 spiral notebook for this class.

Portfolios Portfolios-Students regularly reflect on the metacognitive process regarding their own learning and progression towards the mastery of the material documented in the portfolio.

Classroom Procedures Students enter the room quietly and copy their homework assignment Students take out homework and place it on their desks Students quietly read the objective/agenda for the day Students may read quietly before or after class

Media Students go to the media center the first Monday of each month to check out books. Students have access to a media cart with computers frequently in class. Students may borrow books from the small class library.

Other Important Information We expect every student to try his/her best on all assignments given. Please look through your student’s agenda book and binders and help keep them organized. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

GT Creative Productions and Investigations- This approach fosters a deliberate and purposeful application-often grounded in independent research- of what students know about literary, literary nonfiction, and informational content and form to the development of an original work.

GT Concept Attainment: The three essential attributes are –1) the thinking process; –2) over learning; –and 3) extension.

GT Inductive Approach- These approaches allow students to construct meaning through complex, abstract, and independent thinking. One inductive approach is Concept Attainment.

GT Shared Inquiry- Participants search for answers to fundamental questions raised by a text. The search is inherently student- active, and teachers do not impart information or present their own ideas, but guide students in reaching their own evidence-based interpretations. This approach is a staple for GT oral discourse.

GT In addition, GT language and writing expectations introduce students to the demands of the high school English GT program. The analysis of rhetoric and the understanding of how writers use argument foster understanding and appreciation of author’s craft and introduces students to the demands of the College Board Language and Composition.
