2 Magnets are everywhere. Earth! In fact you live on the biggest magnet around …. If you have ever used a computer, microwave oven, or stereo speakers, you have used magnets!

3 Magnet Facts 1. Magnets are made from a rock called magnetite or lodestone. 2. Magnetite attracts iron and steel.

4 3. Magnets have two poles - the North Pole and the South Pole. 4. On a bar magnet the poles are on the ends.

5 5. Magnets are strongest at the poles.

6 6. Attract means to pull something to you. Magnets pull things made of iron and steel.

7 7. Opposites Attract The North Pole is attracted to the South Pole. The South Pole is attracted to the North Pole.

8 8. Repel means to push away. A North Pole repels another North Pole.

9 9. A force is a push or a pull. 10. A magnetic force is the pulling force of a magnet.

11 10. A compass uses a magnet to tell direction. A compass has a magnet inside that moves the arrow. The arrow on a compass always points north.
