Expansion: increasing in size Conquest: act of taking over by force Treaties: agreements Blending: mixing Conquered: something (land/people) that has been taken over by force.

Causes: -Muhammad died. -Abu Bakr becomes leader of the Muslims -Armies strong from battles in Arabia Effects: -United Arabia -Persian and Byzantine Empires Defeated -Treaties with non-Muslims created: -Some non-Muslims not allowed to build places of worship. -Some non-Muslims not allowed to dress like Muslims. -Differences between groups of Muslims (Shia-Sunni) developed. -Capital moved from Medina to Damascus -Took over lands in Central Asia, northern India, eastern Mediterranean, North Africa, Spain. -Took over trade in eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. -Many Berbers converted to Islam. -Government reorganized.
