2 Goals of this Project To understnd how students from other countries use technology Make connections by discovering similarities and differences Learn about the culture of another country through our interview

4 Interview with Janet Real name: Chun Yu Chien Janet is from Taipei the capital city of Taiwan Her birthday is January 28 Janet has one younger sister who also attends SNHU Her parents still live in Taiwan

5 Interview cont. Janet came to the U.S. to further her education as required for her broadcasting job. She plans on studying English here and returning to her job and family in Taiwan when finished. She has been here for one year already and says she plans on staying a total of 2 years

6 Interview cont. Janet said that the process of getting to the U.S. required an interview to get her VISA Janet heard about SNHU through friends who attended SNHU already and through advertising in Taiwan

7 High School in Taiwan Very Strict Many tests Uniforms Lots of homework Janet also told us that the public schools in Taiwan were better than going to a private school

8 Differences in Schooling between the U.S. and Taiwan Not as many tests Not as much homework A lot of stress from parents to do well in school More expectations for students in Taiwan No technology used in high schools-only used computers to complete papers Projectors used only in colleges

9 Differences cont. More technology used here than in Taiwan In Taiwan technology used mostly outside of the classroom More technology used school wise in America

10 Miscellaneous Questions and Answers Main cultural difference between the two countries is food We asked Janet what she misses most about Taiwan while she is here- Her mother but she does get to speak to her often She thinks her English had definitley improved since she had been here in the U.S.

11 Misc. cont. She tries to talk English when she is among other international students but she says it is very hard We asked if in Taiwan a lot of people speak English: most people know it but can’t speak it fluently
