2 17 February 2009 cdma2000© Femto Standardization Activities in 3GPP2

3 17 February 2009 Background 3GPP2 began work on femtocell-related standardization in early 2007 Technical activities were initiated in all 3GPP2 TSGs in late 2007  System requirements  Security aspects  Air interface (radio) enhancements  Support for legacy 1x circuit services  Packet data services for 1x and HRPD (EV-DO) Throughout 2008, extensive work has been done in all areas Publication expected in Q3-Q4 2009

4 17 February 2009 Drivers for Femtocell Work in 3GPP2 Extremely high level of interest in femtocell technologies from cdma2000© system operators Femtocells for 1xRTT services already deployed by two major system operators Evolution to SIP/IMS-based architecture considered essential Femto Forum has a strong Market Representation Partnership (MRP) relationship with 3GPP2 Maximum re-use of existing 3GPP2 interfaces and entities

5 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Standards Architecture – Key Aspects (1) Reflects SIP/IMS approach for 1x circuit services  Voice services  Supplementary services (SMS, etc.)  Emergency and location services Packet data service model  Reuse existing interfaces (A10/A11) to PDSN from FAPs  “Flat” model with packet data service terminated in FAPs is in roadmap for second release of specifications Security architecture using IPsec/IKEv2  Certificates with simple authentication model  Basic IPsec/IKEv2 profiles

6 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Standards Architecture – Key Aspects (2) Enhanced System Selection (ESS)/Preferred User Zone List (PUZL)  Analogous to CSGs in 3GPP, with some additional functionality  Provisioned data structures that supplement the existing Preferred Roaming List (PRL)  Operates with unmodified macro systems (1x and EV-DO)  Addresses the notion of “autonomous” learning of PUZL information by mobile devices Air interface enhancements for 1x and EV-DO  Enhancements for femto macro system handoff  Improved operation of ESS, etc. Local IP Access (Local Breakout)  Access to owner’s local home network  Direct access to the internet for Packet Data Service traffic  Access to home network resources when mobile device is operating on the macro system

7 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Reference Architecture – 1x Circuit

8 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Reference Architecture – Packet Data

9 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Femtocell-Related Specifications System Requirements for Femto Cell Systems – S.R0126-0 v1.0 (published) Interoperability Specification (IOS) pieces – A.S0024  Includes Local IP Access support and anything special for femtos, e.g., handin/out Packet Data Service pieces – X.S0059  Multi-part (chapter) document includes packet data service aspects for 1x and DO, as well as the SIP/IMS-based 1x legacy voice service  Basic management object contents from 3GPP2 are being documented here as well Network Reference Model, etc., – S.S0135 Security Framework – S.S0132 Air Interface Enhancements for 1x and EV-DO (for future femto-aware mobile devices)  Revision of EV-DO specification (C.S0024-C)  1x enhancement included in IS-2000 Rev. E  Enhanced System Selection (ESS, a.k.a. PUZL) feature – C.S0016-D  Analogous to the 3GPP Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) feature, but ESS is much more sophisticated and flexible

10 17 February 2009 cdma2000 Femto Standards Activities Outside 3GPP2 Definition of FAP management architecture  TR-069-based approach  Management objects defined formally by Broadband Forum (similar to 3GPP management architecture)  cdma2000 1xRTT and EV-DO objects within Femto Forum management object framework  Re-use of major portions of management objects that are common (e.g., Security Gateway-related objects) Shared experience of SIP/IMS femto architecture as 3GPP moves into this area  Eventual movement into Common IMS architecture 3GPP under investigation  Build on lessons learned in 3GPP2 SIP/IMS efforts Other areas of common interest with Femto Forum, 3GPP, etc.  Local IP Access  Regulatory issues

11 17 February 2009 3GPP2 Organization Structure and Roles in Femtocell- Related Work 3GPP2 Organizational Partners/ Steering Committee TSG-A Access Network Interfaces TSG-C Radio Access TSG-S Service and System Aspects TSG-X Core Networks Local IP Access Device Authentication RAN Management Objects Interworking between femto and macro systems Enhanced System Selection 1xRTT and EVDO Radio Interface Enhancements Minimum Performance Specifications Air Interface Management Objects System Requirements Security Architecture Network Reference Model System Management Model Packet Data Service Aspects Security Protocols Reference architecture for femtos SIP/IMS-based Circuit Service Architecture and Protocols IP-related Management Objects Femto Forum MRP Relationship
