List as many adjectives (describing words) that you can think of describing Caesar and his life. 2. What leadership qualities did Caesar possess? 3. If you were to come up with two quiz questions based on this reading, what might they be?

2. Objective- SWBAT understand how Julius Caesar rose to power in Ancient Rome

3. After Sulla left office, different Roman leaders fought among themselves for power. Many of them were military official who relied on their loyal armies to support them. Why would military officials be the ones trying to declare their power? (Turn and Talk)

4. In 60 B.C. three men ruled the Roman Republic, Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar. Crassus was a general and one of Rome’s wealthiest men, while Pompey and Caesar were known for their military accomplishments

6. As a class, we will popcorn read a passage titled "Caesar's Conquests” After completion of the reading, we will discuss the pros and cons of Caesars decision to cross the Rubicon. What might have happened if Caesar never crossed the Rubicon

7. Independent Practice Independently read a passage titled, “Caesar Takes Power” and answer the following comprehension questions: 1.What reforms did Caesar introduce to Rome? 2.Who would likely have been in favor of these reforms, and who would have opposed them?

8. Group Work Work in groups to write a newspaper article memorializing Julius Caesar’s life. You will be given a newspaper template, and each group will be asked to include the following: When and where Caesar was born? How did Caesar rise to power? What were his accomplishments? How/when did he die? An illustration

9. Closure Each group will read their newspaper article aloud to the class

10. Homework “Veni, Vedi, Vici”, this quote meant “I came, I saw, I conquered”, and was stated by Julius Caesar. Interpret the quote and explain how it relates to Caesars life.
