1 KIDS GEORGIA (Kids and Families Impacting Disease through Science) Child Life Department: June 17 th, 2015

2  KIDS is an advisory group of children, adolescents and families focused on understanding, communicating and improving the process of medical innovation for children.  KIDS is sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Advances in Therapeutics and Technology (SATT) in collaboration with local AAP Chapters, children’s hospitals, local schools and other partners. WHAT IS KIDS?

4 What is ICAN? iCAN is a worldwide consortium of KIDS Teams, Young Person’s Advisory Groups (YPAGs), and similar organizations working together to provide a voice for children and families in pediatric medicine through synergy, communication, and collaboration.

5 ICAN OBJECTIVES Connect With similar groups around the world Share Ideas, best practices, challenges, culture Learn From one another and capitalize on expertise Collaborate For research, innovation, children and families Advocate The health and well- being of children around the world

6 KIDS MEMBERSHIP Children ages 8 to 18 years*  Past experience with a clinical trial, or  Experience using hospital services, or  Some knowledge of taking medicine, or  Interest in medicine and/or research, or  Parents/guardians of such children *Consideration given to younger Team Members on case-by-case basis Current Membership:  >50 Members + parents  60% with medical condition, 40% healthy with interest in medicine/research  60% membership attendance, 80% executive board  Executive Board and Junior Board

7 WHAT DO WE DO?  Learn about research that improves the health and well-being of kids  Help researchers with their projects  Suggest ways that research in kids could be done better  Attend and participate in educational conferences  Interact with companies and scientists studying things that will help kids  Help start other KIDS Teams in the US and in other countries and share ideas…and lots more!
