NMUSD Adult School BESST Center

2 Meeting Objectives and Outcomes
Goal: We will be amply prepared for a productive, well-executed fire drill on Wednesday, 12/12/07. Objectives: Review Team Roles, Functions and Responsibilities (see attached) Predict and solve any “kinks/problems/issues” before the drill Agree upon expectations of student and teacher conduct during the drill (i.e., evacuating in a safe, efficient and orderly fashion - walking in straight lines by class, no stopping, talking, meeting up with friends from other classes…) Outcome: The BESST-Center NMUSD Adult School staff members will understand their assigned roles, functions and responsibilities and feel comfortable and equipped to perform them.

6 Emergency Team Roles, Functions and Responsibilities
Command Center Primary duty is to be central information location. Radio information from District, from teams, and from police, fire, and rescue is to be dealt with at the Command Center. Utility Shut Off/Security Primary duty is to ensure that utilities are properly shut off, and to lock/unlock gates as needed. Security will then provide assistance to the Nesting/Assembly Area. Search & Rescue #1 (Office, front bathrooms) Search & Rescue #2 (Rooms ) Search & Rescue #3 (Rooms ) Search & rescue teams are to search buildings for possibly injured/trapped people. The location of all injured/trapped people should immediately be reported on the radio to the Command Center. Command Center will direct police & fire personnel to actually perform any needed rescue in the event of an emergency. DO NOT PUT YOURSELVES AT RISK OF INJURY. Upon completion of Search & Rescue duty, search & rescue team members shall act as additional Security Personnel. First Aid # 1 (Table area in front of Hope Clinic-Serious Injuries) This First Aid station is the central area for seriously injured people. Ambulances and trained medical personnel will go to this area to help seriously injured people prior to leaving for the hospital. Assembly Area (Rea Elementary Field) In this area, students are to be lined up by teacher with Disaster backpacks. Teachers will take roll and complete their Post Evacuation Reports. The assembly area captain will collect all Post Evacuation Reports for the Assemly Area and send them via one person to the Command Center. Teacher-Specific Responsibilities: Direct your students on what to do in an orderly manner Take your Emergency Backpack and Emergency Clipboard with the following items: Close but do not lock your door General Responsibilities for All Staff: Conduct yourself in a professional, orderly, serious manner – modeling high standards of conduct for our Adult Education students Report to your stations and perform your assigned duties
