2 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates2 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working group Startpro How is the knowledge inside the trade unions concerning the Bologna process:  What are the links with the labour markets? Information from the StartPro network to the Mobilnet is necessary and vice versa:  How do we spread this information in our own organisations? The responsible people for the website need to make the update.

3 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates3 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working group Startpro The image of the trade unions is old- fashioned: our StartPro is a young network that could change that situation.  Too few organisations are really actively engaged in the network: how to remedy it?  Nevertheless the attraction (“appeal”) of the trade unions is linked with the services that they offer to their members and the resources they invest in this offer.

Mobilnet should be constantly updated in order to find accurate information on working conditions, labour market, etc. In the Nordic Countries realities are similar: trade unions and professional organisations go hand in hand.

5 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates5 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working groups Mobilnet/Startpro Marketing and visibility: our members don’t see our networks Our networks are not covering the whole diversity of Europe: young graduates?  How does it work in practice?  The young generations should be closer linked to the trade unions and surely not only in case of dismissal.

6 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates6 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working groups Mobilnet/Startpro The quality of our advice need to improve and be more diverse:  The trade unions should have the same capacity as the business world to attract young people through an updated image.  Are the identity & the objectives of the trade unions sufficient for young people to join?  Are the trade unions now ready to listen and change? It’s essential for our credibility The working life of young people is quite different from the past

7 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates7 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working groups Mobilnet/Startpro Give young people the opportunity to have mentorship, career advice and - guidance, career development, training advice, etc.  cf. common principles StartPro  The young people like the personal (individual) contacts and concrete services The members’ expectations are essential:  trade unions can’t cover all the demands, but – limited - efficient choices are essential.

8 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates8 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Report working groups Mobilnet/Startpro Sharing our resources all over Europe could be a solution for the limited investment of trade unions in young graduates’ mobility:  It could prove the benefits in favour of our organisations all over Europe.  The knowledge about actions in national organisations should be disseminated.  We have to sell trade unions ‘values’ in a non-political way.

How to find the resources?  Share the tools that we have developed among member organisations  Higher degree of networking is essential Information about the transition periods which are still in place:  effects on labour markets: brain drain, education, etc.

12 “The competition for young professionals – mobility and migration of graduates12 17-18 March 2008 – Dirk Ameel – executive officer EUROCADRES Final working groups Mobilnet/Startpro Suggestions and ideas on next activities:  Project proposals: Startpro: Bologna process challenges and opportunities for young people:  internships (cf. checklist for internship) and entrepreneurship (linked to free mobility choices).  The Italian workshop 2007 focused on entrepreneurship: we could further develop this issue (document available on the website and publication)

We could not limit them to one/country  The on-line training for StartPro & Mobilnet people: Information & training about problem-solving, mobility.
