TLQ How do I correctly use quotations in an essay?

Evidence/Quotations Quotations are used as evidence because they come directly from the book. Topic Sentence Evidence (quote) Explanation Evidence (quote) Explanation Concluding Sentence

T stands for TRANSITION For example, For instance, Another example is In addition, Moreover, Transitions should be used before any piece of evidence/quote.

L stands for LEAD-IN Lead-ins give the reader information about the “scene” from where the quote is extracted. It should contain both  Speaker  Situation For example, when Ged returns to Low Torning, the narrator states,

Q stands for QUOTE Your evidence is a quote—anything from the text, regardless of if it has been “spoken” by a character or not. However, quotes should support the topic you are writing about. For example, when Ged returns to Low Torning, the narrator states, “The townspeople were singing the Song of the Sparrowhawk” (103).

What follows a quote? Add two sentences of explanation that shows the importance of the quote/situation as related to your topic. For example, when Ged returns to Low Torning, the narrator states, “The townspeople were singing the Song of the Sparrowhawk” (103). For the first time Ged acted in the interest of others and was being praised for his actions.

For example, when Romeo decides to break into the Capulet’s tomb to see Juliet and he explains how much he still loves her, he says “Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breath, hath had no power yet upon thy beauty” (1094). This shows that he loved Juliet so much that he wasn’t going to let anything stand between them, not even Paris. Just because he loved Juliet doesn’t mean that he should take the risk of breaking into the tomb to see Juliet. Example #1

For example, before Romeo and Juliet got married, Romeo had sent a response to Juliet’s question, if he will marry her or not, by Juliet’s nurse and Romeo tells the nurse, “Nurse, commend me to thy lady and mistress. I protest unto thee—” (1036). This shows that Romeo loves Juliet so much that he will marry her a few days after they had first met. Also this shows that Romeo wants to marry Juliet right away and he will struggle for it if he was not given the chance to. Example #2

Another example is when Juliet is about to kill herself, she says “This is thy sheath, there rust, and let me die” (1098). This tells us that love affected Juliet’s decision because she killed herself because of her love for Romeo. This also tells us that Juliet’s love for Romeo is her will to live. Example #3
