Professional activity: The degree is a professional course; leading to eligibility to register as a Social Worker Key tasks include: Assessing needs, risks and circumstances Helping people access resources/advocacy Communication & engagement Fulfilling statutory duties Working across agencies and disciplines Working with individuals, families, groups and communities

Entry Requirements: Typical offer: 260 – 300 points GCSE Maths & English (Min Grade C or Key Skills Level 2 Merit) Competence in written & spoken English (Level 0.7) Ability to use IT facilities Relevant Social Care Work experience (paid or voluntary) Appropriate personal & intellectual qualities Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS formerly CRB) & Health checks Participation in a selection process Note: the work of the Reform Board

7. Selection process (as recommended by The College of Social Work) Involves: 1.A written exercise 2.Participation in a group discussion 3.Individual interview

8. Structure of the Degree: Level 4: ‘Pre-professional’ year Level 5: 50% classroom & 50% field practice Level 6: 50% classroom & 50% field practice The course is currently being re-validated and whilst the content will be similar, the structure and order of delivery might be altered

13. Bursaries and packages to support undergraduate students Bursaries: A large number of bursaries are available for the second and third year of study (to support students whilst on placement). There have been recent changes in the amount and allocation of these. See Department of Health guidance for details. Range of Packages: Aimed at all students. For those taking A levels students achieving AAB or ABB are eligible for some financial support from the university. Other financial support packages are available for those studying BTEC and CACHE diplomas at equivalent levels, as well as other vocational qualifications.
