Contract The contract lists what you will deliver and what your client will supply. Use the form provided and download the contract template in a word document from the website. Send it to your client after your meeting today (via email is acceptable). Bring an agreed-upon hard copy of the contract from your email and hand it in next class. Your client just needs to indicate in the email exchange that he or she approves the contract.

Sample Contract

Meeting the Clients Today Carefully read the project description but don’t assume it is the final word. After introducing yourself and practicing Dale Carnegie, ask the client if there are any revisions on the project submitted. Inform the client that you hope to have a draft contract that will be completed through email and an appointment to visit the agency.

What to Ask the Clients? Ideas about what to ask: Have them clarify something about their project based on what you read on the info form Ask if you will be working in their office or from home Determine how you will communicate. Email is best and get their cell phone number if they will give it to you. Give them your cell number.

Negotiating the Contract Make sure you know how you will get the data Set deadlines for things like survey design or mailing lists Ask if the client would like you to present the findings to a group Set a timeline to get the contract finalized through email.

First Meeting Danger Signals Client thinks you are an intern and have to spend time at the office other than for access to data that is not allowed to be removed from the office. Client is vague about data and deadlines Survey not in draft form already Client says they discussed it with Coplin and are not clear (if so, get him immediately)

Professionalism Your TA and Coplin will be walking around and judging your Professionalism on the following categories: Taking Responsibility including time management Communicating Verbally Working with people Asking and Answering the Right Questions Solving Problems

A completed Agenda/Work Log and Contract are due from each student next class.

315 Website http://classes.maxwell.syr.edu/paf315/ Access to: Syllabus Grade Sheets- ALWAYS print and attach to assignments Lectures Formatting Guide Contact Information Sample Assignments Report Standards Various “How To” FAQ’s Contract Agenda and Work Log Hit the Job Writing Applications

Supervisor You are assigned a Supervisor to work with; do not work with the other Supervisors unless directed to do so and do not see Coplin unless directed or given permission to do so. Hand Work Log to Your Supervisor at the beginning of each class For 315 related help, only contact your Supervisor via email or in person. Any other form of communication (i.e. texting, calling, Facebook) for 315 related help will result in a loss of points.

Weekly Emails After every class, your Supervisor will send out an email reviewing what was discussed in class and what is due for the next class. There will be surveys that students are required to take (via survey monkey). They will take less than a minute to complete and will be used in class to help re-enforce survey concepts.

Something to Note… Students who have web surveys or light/easy projects will be assigned to help students with heavy projects involving research and phone calls Students who have heavy, more difficult projects can receive up to 3 points added to their Report grade sheet

Reminders Due next class Contract – Copy of email with contract and client approval Agenda/Work Log – Template and directions on website
