Classroom

Definition When you arrive on time you are responsible and have everything taken care of before you come into the classroom, and you come into the classroom before the tardy bell rings. You walk directly to your seat or designated spot with your materials ready for class. Arriving on time is important to your teacher, your classmate, and yourself in order to use the full amount of learning time on learning and not on taking care of tardies.

Example Cynthia walks into class prepared for the day. She follows the procedures Mrs. Abbott has given her such as hanging up her coat and getting out her pencil when she sits down. The tardy bell rings.

Non-Example Ronnie walks into class and places his materials on his desk. He goes out into the hall and talks with his friends. The tardy bell rings. Ronnie tells his friends goodbye and heads for class, where he is tardy. Mrs. Abbott is not happy. (Neither is Sponge Bob.)

Example Sam knows it takes a long time to get ready for school in the morning. He packs his backpack and lays out his clothes before he goes to bed the Sam knows it takes a long time to get ready for school in the morning. He packs his backpack and lays out his clothes before he goes to bed the night before so he has time to get ready for school and not worry about being late. In the morning, Sam is able to get ready quickly. He arrives to school and follows the morning routine. The tardy bells rings, and Sam is on time.

Practice Time Students practice arrival procedures. Teachers: you may want to give Cat Tracks to students paid attention and actively participated.

Discussion Discuss strategies for getting to class on time, helpful hints, and what you should do after arriving on time. Volunteer a story about a time someone was late picking you up or late to an event and how it made you feel or a story when if you hadn’t been on time, then…, etc.
