Cover for special hardcover edition of Phys. Lett. B featuring CMS+ATLAS Higgs results 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)1 The articles were submitted today by both experiments.

Integrated luminosity at  s = 8 TeV 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)2 We have collected another ~60% more data since the Higgs dataset was closed… Data taking efficiency over the year = 93% Data taking efficiency since dataset closed = 96% Note to Chris: RPC trigger bad for ~160/pb Fills 2812 and 2816

Cleaning up shift instructions If something goes wrong during the run, the DAQ shifter is supposed to follow the Shift News appropriate for the subdetector – https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/ShiftNews https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/ShiftNews Example snippet of text from CSC… 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)3 … and this is one of the more straightforward descriptions… (!) It is a wonder that we ever recover from problems… The only reason we do is that there are only a few actual actions that can be done… … next page

Display all shifter actions in one page? 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)4 Christophe and I have proposed a matrix like the following to the DAQ group… Initial reaction from DAQ group: “We like it!” … So we will see how this progresses…

Database check at p5 As of now, an audible alarm sounds in the control room if there is a problem in the database – Thresholds for a set of “test queries” – If one of the queries stays above the lower threshold for more than ~5 minutes  audio alarm in the control room 18 July 2012: test of notification and audible alarms – Lowered thresholds to a ridiculously low value, and waited for reaction from ICINGA. Audio alarm within ~5 minutes – Thresholds/configuration to be tuned to minimize false-positives and to optimize reaction time Next step: get input from subsystems – Input = representative set of queries done at run transitions (i.e., Initialize, Configure, Start, Halt,…) with the idea that these are the critical queries needed to get the system Running… I made a presentation on this yesterday at the Run Meeting… Will send out email to commissioning hypernews tomorrow… 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)5

ALCT slow control firmware testing Failed to make svf/xsvf files – Needed UCLA to make them for me Failed to get VME loading going at 904 – Need Karoly to get version of Yellow page/XDAQ… hopefully he can get this running before I get back from vacation… 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)6

To do Run Coordination – Rework shift leader training – Make shift summary Elog template for shift leader Finish ARC work on Contact Interactions – Collaboration Wide Review ends this week CSC – Put firmware into SVN – Document ALCT/CLCT muonic timing – RAT firmware loading As well… – Make neutron skims 31 July 2012G. Rakness (UCLA)7
