2 Homeroom Rules 1.Be seated in your assigned seat when the bell rings. 2.Listen quietly when the announcements are on. 3.Wait to be dismissed by the teacher to go to your next class. 4.Follow directions. 5.Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. 6.No name calling, put-downs, harassment, or bullying.

3 Welcome to 8 th grade Language Arts. This course is provided to improve your English skills through activities that will focus on reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication. Objectives for this class are based on the Alabama Course of Study.

4 What to expect from the teacher A structured class that challenges each student to do his or her best An opportunity to read a wide variety of literature A "Personal Trainer" for writing

5 Supplies 3 Prong Folder with Pockets Loose Leaf Paper Blue or Black Pens Pencils Laptop

6 Class Work/ Homework Policy Cheating will not be tolerated. Turn in all assignments on time and in the area designated by the teacher. A zero will be given for papers without the proper heading. Have your homework done before class begins. Late work is not graded except in the event of illness or any other excused absence. It is the responsibility of the student to turn in missed work.

7 Grading Policy Students' grades are based on points earned for tasks completed in and out of class. Absences Students must make up missed work when absent from class. For each day absence, students have two school days to make up the work.

8 Classroom Procedures 1.Go to the restroom and get water before entering the room. 2.Sharpen pencils before to tardy bell. 3.At the beginning of class you should be in your assigned seat working on bell work. 4.Trash should be disposed of after class not during. 5.Raise your hand to be recognized. 6.Respect the people, equipment and furnishings of the room. 7.Class is dismissed by the teacher not the bell.

9 Rules Follow directions. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. No name calling, put-downs, harassment, or bullying. Be seated before bell; bring pen, pencil, paper, and computer to class daily. No food, drink, doing make-up, headgear, or electronics.

10 Classroom Discipline Procedure 1.Warning- name in log 2.Last out- name in log 3.Above + value time, time after 4.Above + parent involvement (discipline card) 5.Above + administrative referral Exercises
