3 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. Use the ESL Center website to open the ESL 403 lab webpage. 3. Look around ESL 403 site Open Portfolio Checklist/Gradesheet, editing worksheet, etc. ESL 403 Website Introduction

4 1.Watch the instructor show you how to register on Exercise Central. 2. Register yourself. 3. Write down your login and password on your Assignment Sheet and one other place! Be careful with your password! Instructor cannot help you if you lose this info. ESL 403 Exercise Central

5 1.Do the exercise numbers from on your appropriate day 2.If you finish early, find some other exercises on Exercise Central to do, but NOT next week’s assignments. Work until the class time is finished. You cannot leave early. You cannot do other homework. You cannot sleep or just watch the computer screen. ESL 403 Exercise Central Tip: Do not speed through them or finish too early!

6 When you finish an exercise: Do not “email your instructor” your results Score will be on “Scorecard” 15 minutes after you’ve finished that exercise. (What’s a scorecard? You will print that at the end of the semester and put it in your Portfolio.) Sometimes the PCC server gets busy so the site may be slow. Be patient! ESL 403 Exercise Central

8 Proper format of a paragraph 1.Name, class & date at top right 2.Double space 3.Font size: 12 4.Indented (use the Tab key above Caps Lock) 5.Title: Centered, important words capitalized The last page of your syllabus shows a paragraph with correct format. Take it out now.

9 What’s wrong with the paragraph? 1.Open the sample paragraph from the homepage. 2.Decide what is wrong with the formatting. 3.Fix the formatting on your laptop. Do you know how to do a word count? 4.The staff will walk around and answer questions 5.In 5 minutes, you will check your work. 6.Save it to your flash drive as “well_formatted_par agph”

10 When you are typing your paragraphs this semester, if you forget how to format properly, please look at your syllabus and/or ask the ESL 403 staff.
