August 30th I hope each of you are ACTIVELY promoting your clubs attendance at the next DCM on August 30th. This will be my final hoorah.....as they say. It has been a GREAT ride, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! We will be welcoming in our new LTG Bert Wasmund who will have just been sworn in the week before! We'll be swapping stories about our successes. Enjoying some great food and of course, friendly Kiwanis fellowship as well. I'm sure Bert will have exciting news for us as he "swings in to action". I will be presenting some special awards to some very deserving club officers and my great supporting staff of Division chairs also. As always, I promise a timely, organized meeting. And an ON time adjournment!! I hope you will make every effort to attend. That you will bring your spouse. And of course...a whole bunch of your fellow officers and members! He has many progressive ideas educating the public on elections and facilitating the voting process. Mr. Holland spoke to us about new technologies coming down the pike. As always he delivered an excellent talk that provoked many good questions from our membership. We are looking forward to his next visit. THANK YOU Mr. Holland for your interesting presentation. LTG Rande LeFevre DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING Best Wishes! Happy Birthday! Al Russ 8/16 Ralph Marcello 8/17 Butch Shadwell 8/20 “Wow!!! Just when we think Marco Island can not get any better, it does! Governor Mark Taylor has gotten Mark Merrill to address us on Sunday at our Memorial Breakfast. His Family First program is outstanding. I know everyone will want to hear his message. Wow! His radio program, "Family Minute" reaches 6 million persons each week. I know all of us will not want to miss hearing Mark Merrill. Please let everyone from your club that is attending know about this exciting addition to our DCON. This event will be for everyone!” LTG Rande LeFevre Thank you, Penman Crew! Left to Right: George Goodloe, Jay Ambler, Dick Brand, & Butch Shadwell (Photographer ) Kiwanis originally was viewed and advertised by founder Allen Simpson Browne as a method of contacting other business and professional people in the hope of expanding business. Most members joined for this expressed purpose, never expecting the club to grow to a much larger calling. The first president, Don Johnston, believed if the club ever were to be successful, it had to offer philanthropic community service to the city of Detroit. Pictures by Butch Shadwell
