Passing Periods Name 1, Name 2, Name 3, Name 4

Define the Problem: During passing periods the hallways are very crowded which makes it difficult to get to class on time. We barely have enough time to get to class with no obstacles, but when we have to weave in and out of people as well, it makes it nearly impossible to get to class on time.

Establish Criteria You cannot drastically change the length of passing periods The hallways cannot be changed in size You can’t change how many kids have to use the halls

Analyze the Problem: It’s causing people to be late to class constantly People are constantly tripping and getting hurt

Analyze the Problem: We took a survey from the students of Denton High School to see what they think about passing periods

Analyze the Problem: What are your views on the halls during passing period ?

Analyze the Problem: What are your views on the length of passing period?

Suggest Possible Solutions: Add a minute to each passing period. Play music the last minute to give kids a heads up. Put divider lines in the hallways to function as a median. Have more teachers in the hallway to stop people from clumping up and talking.

Evaluate the Solutions: Add a minute to each passing period: It could easily be done We could just take off a minute from the beginning of each class It would allow people more time to get to and from classrooms

Play music during the last minute: This is another easy solution It would allow kids to have a better understanding of how much time they have left If you played the school band, orchestra, or choir music then it could raise school pride a well as making kids more interested in the schools fine arts

Evaluate the Solutions: Add lines on the floor to act as medians: This would make sure people weren't running into each other It could speed up hallway traffic This is not as easy as the previous two solutions but it could still be done

Evaluate the Solutions: Have More Teachers out to Monitor the Halls: This could work if the students were cooperative They could control clusters of students in the hallway They could also prevent any fights from happening

Evaluate the Solutions and Pick the Best One Have More Teachers out to Monitor the Halls: This solution meets all criteria : – You cannot drastically change the length of passing periods – The hallways cannot be changed in size – You can’t change how many kids have to use the halls

Suggest Ways of Testing or Carrying out the Solutions: Talk to administrators Count how many people are late on average every day, the play music for the last minute and see how that number changes Put more teachers in the hall and see if that helps
