4 General College Requirements You should complete Algebra 2 as a minimum. Most colleges suggest that you take 4 years of math. Foreign Language (2 levels in the same language) University of Utah 2 of your 3 science credits should be lab sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) Out of state school requirements and deadlines may differ. 6 Scholarships You don’t have to pay back You usually don’t have to demonstrate financial need Scholarships generally reward a special talent such as academic, athletic, or artistic skills Scholarships may also be awarded based on what you want to study in college, ethnicity/race, religion, where your parents work, where you live, or clubs/activities/programs that you joined in high school

7 General Types of Scholarships Merit Scholarships (GPA/ACT or SAT) – Honors at Entrance – Dean’s – Top Ten – Presidential Some schools have a set index score to qualify Departmental Scholarships based on program of study, performing/visual arts, athletics – Application criteria may include: Tryouts, Portfolios, Letters of recommendation, Resume, Essay, Interview Leadership/Ambassador Scholarships/Service – Application criteria often include: Resume, Letters of recommendation, Leadership experience in school or community Diversity Scholarships – Ethnic/Racial diversity – Financial need – GPA/ACT – First general college student

11 New Century Scholarship Graduate from a Utah high school with a 3.5 GPA Finish an Associate’s degree with a 3.0 GPA by the date student graduates from high school Students can receive the New Century or the Regents’ Scholarship, but not both Students must meet with an academic advisor from SLCC (Holly Perry) This scholarship is very demanding and may require some classes to be taken on a college campus at full tuition. Recipients must enroll full-time (12 credits) in an eligible 4-year Bachelor’s degree program The maximum New Century Scholarship award amount that a student may receive is $1250 per semester. Award amounts may change from year to year.
