3 Wellington Work Experience The aims of work experience were to- Develop their personal and social skills (self confidence, working with others). Help to motivate the students by seeing the relevance of work done in school. Promote knowledge of the opportunities available. Give an insight into the working environment and the culture of the workplace.

6 Anti Bullying Week Overall aims To ensure both parents and student understand what bullying is To ensure the links between a no tolerance of bullying school and our WIS charter are clear to all To raise awareness of the fact that students themselves can stamp out bullying and bullying behaviour To develop the ethos in school that it is ok to tell to develop relationships between students across the year groups

7 Anti Bullying Week-Sunday 7 th December – Thursday 11 th December By the end of the week Each tutor group has a policy for bullying outside of school Each tutor group has a presentation for a parents on bullying and their policy on bullying outside of school

8 Year 10 and 11 Mathematics

9 IGCSE Mathematics Pathways Year 10 sets 3 to 8 are all currently studying the B/A/A* topics Content is becoming more difficult – speed at which topics are taught will slow down Sets 1 and 2: IGCSE exam May 21 st and June 4 th

10 IGCSE Mathematics Pathways Only candidates who complete their IGCSE early and attain an A* or A grade may embark on the GCSE Statistics course in Year 11. To study Further Mathematics students need to attain an A* grade at IGCSE. Accelerated Students Students in the top two sets in Year 10 move through the course at a faster rate and these become the accelerated groups. They will sit their IGCSE examination at the end of Year 10 and then have the option to take GCSE Further Mathematics or GCSE Statistics (with pure Mathematics once/twice a week)in Year 11. Examinations for both of these courses take place at the end of Year 11.

11 Progress What we expect: Year 10 students are expected to make 3 subgrades progress from the end of year 9 to the end of year 10 Year 11 -2subgrades progress Accelerated students are expected to make 4 subgrades progress in year 10

17 GCSE English Language Students have so far completed: A descriptive writing piece A Spoken Language Study essay GCSE Literature coursework essay GCSE English Language folder = worth 40% of their final GCSE grade (four responses). GCSE English Literature folder = worth 25% of their final GCSE grade (only one essay response).

18 GCSE English Language The final months of Year 10… After the Spring break, students will be studying a novel. The essay they complete will be worth 25% of their coursework folder (the highest weightage). Students are advised to purchase a copy of this text as it is a cross-over text which they will then study in Year 11 for the Literature exam. Students can make annotations and refer to it throughout the rest of the course. Students will be informed by their teacher which text they will teach. This information will be communicated in the Parent Weekly. Their final piece of coursework will be a writing task.

19 Moving into Year 11 All coursework will be completed by the end of Year 10. Students will then focus on the exams which they will sit at the end of Year 11: 1 exam for GCSE English Language – this will test students on their ability to infer meaning and write for different purposes and audiences. 2 exams for GCSE English Literature – two essay responses on two different texts (one of which they studied in Year 10) and 2 questions on poetry taken from a poetry anthology (this will be provided).

20 GCSE English Students have so far completed: 2 descriptive writing pieces An essay on a prose text GCSE English folder = worth 40% of their final GCSE grade (five responses – a combination of literature and language tasks).

21 GCSE English Language The final months of Year 10… After the Spring break, students will be studying Shakespeare and poetry. Their final piece of coursework will be a writing task.

22 Moving into Year 11 All coursework will be completed by the end of Year 10. Students will then focus on the exam which they will sit at the end of Year 11: 1 exam for GCSE English – this will test students on their ability to infer meaning and write for different purposes and audiences.
