11 Octavian was born on September 23, 63 BC Rome Italy. Octavian was given the title Augustus by the Roman Senate on the 17th of January 27 BC. This title was adopted by all the Roman Emperors long after they had ceased to be connected by blood with the first Augustus. Octavian was given emperor when his uncle was assassinated and chose Octavian to be his successor in 44 BC. Octavian and Mark Antony had separate armies where Mark went east and Octavian went West. Mark married Octavian's sister and then goes back to Egypt to marry Cleopatra. All of this is settled during the Battle of Actium 31-27 BC. Octavian wins this battle sending Mark back to Egypt. The rule of Augustus Caesar gave 40 years of peace to Italy. During these years, they secured the borders and military many jobs for citizens. Augustus also helped improve Italy's roads. Augustus was the first Roman Emperor and ruled 63 BC- 14 C.E.
